Wanna know what are the top 6 advantages of solar energy in SIX minutes? If yes, then you are at the right place at the very right time. But, before going ahead, let me give you a short and crisp review about the fact that what is solar energy anyway…!!!

By definition, solar energy is the energy that we get from the sun in the form of heat or radiation. Not to mention, there are so many different uses of solar energy that we see in our day-to-day life. For example, we can use solar power to electrify our homes, vehicles, industries, or, we can also use it as a water heater.

Top 6 Advantages of Solar Energy in SIX Minutes

There are so many good things about solar energy that you need to know. If you think you can’t relate to the top 6 advantages of solar power. Well, here is your chance to think again. These are the benefits of using solar energy that I will be discussing with you today. Let’s dive right in…!!!

  • Renewable and Clean Source of Energy
  • Reduces Electricity Bill
  • Requires Less Maintenance
  • Wide Range of Solar Applications
  • Uplift Economy
  • Tax Rebates and Incentives

Renewable and Clean Source of Energy

One of the biggest advantages of solar energy is that it not only comes under the category of renewable energy. On the other hand, it is also one of the cleanest sources of energy. By renewable energy, I mean solar energy is renewed or restored by nature over a period of time.

However, as per scientific calculation, there will come a time when the sun will totally exhaust its nuclear fuel, therefore, will die. And, when this happens there will be no sun to shine in the sky, as a result, we won’t be able to access solar energy. But, don’t worry, it will almost take more than 5 billion years for the sun to run out of its fuel.

Similarly, by clean energy, I mean solar energy is also one of the lowest carbon power sources. In other words, it does not emit greenhouse gases, therefore, protects our environment from further deteriorating.

As per the recent World Nuclear Association’s report on Comparison of Lifecycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Various Electricity Generation Sources, a Solar power plant (solar panels) emits 85 tonnes of CO2 per gigawatt-hour (GWh) of energy produced.

On the other hand, for non-renewable energy resources like natural gas and coal power plant, it is 500 and 888 tonnes per GWh, respectively. Therefore, you should switch to solar energy as soon as possible.

Reduces Electricity Bill

Using solar panels could drastically lower your electricity bills, of course, in a long run. In other words, the more solar panels you install at your home, the lesser electricity you have to buy from the government or private company. In fact, this is one of the most widely acclaimed advantages of using solar power.

Not to mention, by purchasing electricity from these governmental or private companies, you yourself are somehow contributing to direct greenhouse gas emissions. HOW? Because most of these power generation companies are heavily relying on fossil fuels like coal or gas to produce electricity.

Therefore, in order to positively contribute to the environmental freedom from fossil fuels, I would simply request you to switch to solar power. On the other hand, suppose you generate more electricity than you need, you can simply sell it to the power grid nearest to your home. But, for that to happen, your solar machinery has to be connected to the nearest power station.

Requires Less Maintenance

Frankly speaking, I am not denying that the initial cost of installation would be overwhelming. However, these systems normally require less maintenance as compared to the other sources of electricity generation. Obviously, once in a while you have to call a maintenance guy for regular health check-ups and cleaning purposes.

Or, sometimes, a wire or two needs to be changed. Apart from that, there are no extra expenses. In addition, nowadays most solar panels are coming with 20 to 25 years of warranty. Therefore, I can simply say that once you install these solar panels at your home, you do not have to spend a single penny for almost 25 years.

In fact, as I mentioned above, if you generate a surplus of electric energy, you can even earn a profit from your initial investment. I would like to add one more important fact here. Installing solar panels at your home can drastically increase your property value. Therefore, I would again formally request you to switch to solar power: a never-ending source of clean energy.

Wide Range of Solar Applications

With the help of modern scientific advancement, uses of solar power are not limited just as a source of electricity generation. In other words, what I meant to say is that we can use the unlimited energy of the sun for a wide range of solar applications.

For example, by using solar power, we can cook food, run generators, heat water. We can power satellites using solar panels. Not to mention, we also have solar-powered vehicles in the market. In fact, depending on the range of efficiency, we can also bifurcate types of solar applications into different ranges.

For example, for commercial purposes, there are solar panels that have the highest efficiency, though their installation cost will be quite higher as compared to the conventional ones that are used to power our houses.

Uplift Economy

The next one in my list of top 6 solar energy advantages in six minutes is that it helps to uplift the national economy. One of the most important aspects of the solar industry is that it can create an enormous amount of job opportunities, which will in return help to uplift the national economy.

In other words, the positive effect of using solar power is that it can create jobs in different sectors. Some of the notable sectors include solar panel manufacturers, Electricians, Engineers, Welders, Entrepreneurs, research in quantum physics and nanotechnology, solar installers, etc.

Tax Rebates and Incentives

In order to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels for electricity generation, different governments around the world are highly incentivizing and giving tax benefits to those who are installing solar panels for home or commercial purposes. These tax rebates and incentives are actually making solar energy more affordable. Therefore, I would again formally request you to switch to solar power.

Just to mention, not only the developed nation but the developing nations like India are also taking bigger steps towards having safer and greener earth. In fact, the current largest photovoltaic power station in the world is the Pavagada Solar Park, Karnataka, India with a generation capacity of 2050 MW.

According to the NS ENERGY, India currently stands third in Asia and fourth in the world in terms of solar power production across its plants, with solar accounting for about 38% of its total renewable energy capacity.

Some other Advantages of Solar Energy:

Apart from the above-mentioned benefits or advantages, I am also mentioning some of a few here.

  • Solar energy can be reused by storing in solar batteries
  • Environment friendly
  • Compatible for all climate
  • Provides stability in Energy Sector
  • Reduces noise pollution
  • Installation cost is reducing exponentially, etc.

I am a mechanical engineer by profession. Just because of my love for fundamental physics, I switched my career, and therefore I did my postgraduate degree in physics. Right now I am a loner (as ever) and a Physics blogger too. My sole future goal is to do a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, especially in the field of cosmology. Because in my view, every aspect of physics comes within the range of cosmology. And I love traveling, especially the Sole one.
