Top 6 Non-uniform Motion Examples in SIX Minutes

Spread the love

Wanna know what are the top 6 non-uniform motion examples in SIX minutes? IF YES, then you are in the right place at the very right time…!!! A non-uniform motion is a type of motion during which an object covers an unequal distance in an equal interval of time.

In other words, when the speed of an object is variable throughout its motion, an object is said to be in non-uniform motion. The opposite of non-uniform motion is uniform motion.

A uniform motion is a type of motion during which an object covers an equal distance in an equal interval of time. In other words, when the speed of an object is constant throughout its motion, an object is said to be in uniform motion.

Top 6 Non-uniform Motion Examples in SIX minutes

If you think, you can’t relate to non-uniform motion examples in daily life. Well, here is your chance to think again…!!! These are real-life examples of non-uniform motion that I will be discussing with you today.

  • When we talk
  • An aircraft taking off and landing down
  • An asteroid roaming in space
  • Batsmen hitting a ball
  • Driving a car in a hilly area
  • Walking in a crowded place

When We Talk

The very first one in my list of top 6 non-uniform motion examples in real life is when we talk. Well, technically speaking, right now I am talking to you. Of course, sometimes I take a pause, sometimes I talk continuously.

But the end result is that the way I am talking to you, or the way you talk to any of your friends is a direct example of non-uniform motion. Whatever we do, we cannot talk continuously. I mean we have to take a pause such that the other person can talk.

This is how we converse…!!! What do you think? Am I right or wrong? Think for yourself, and let me know about your views in the comment section.

An aircraft taking off and landing down

An aircraft taking off and landing is also an example of a non-uniform motion. No wonder, there comes a time when an aircraft displays a uniform motion.

But that only happens when it is flying in the sky at the desired altitude and speed, this is the time when it can fly at a steady-state uniform motion.

But before reaching that desired altitude, an aircraft has to accelerate from zero. Similarly, while landing, it will have to deaccelerate. Therefore, as a result, it will display a motion that is a non-uniform one.

An asteroid roaming in space

Unlike the motion of the earth around the sun or the motion of the moon around the earth, the motion of an asteroid in space is a natural example of non-uniform motion.

The earth rotates around the sun in approximately 365 days 5 hours 59 minutes and 16 seconds. A time period in our normal day-to-day life is known as a calendar year that never changes. Ever wondered why???

Well, this happens because the earth is rotating around the sun in a uniform circular motion. On the other hand, if I talk about the motion of asteroids, our scientists had concluded that they don’t rotate around any celestial object.

Therefore, as a result, the motion of an asteroid in deep space is considered to be a completely non-uniform one. In other words, you can say that the velocity of an asteroid is variable. Hence displays a non-uniform motion.

Batsmen hitting a ball

The next one in my list of top 6 non-uniform motion examples in daily life is when a batsman hit a ball. Of course, you are familiar with the game of Cricket. Just to let you know that recently we Indians lost the first-ever test world cup to New Zealand.

Okay okay, we lost it. Moving ahead, when a batsman hits a ball, at first, the ball moves with a very large velocity. But as soon as the ball moves ahead towards the boundary line, its velocity decreases with time.

Driving a car in a hilly area

Who doesn’t like to drive a car in a hilly area? I mean the weather is too pleasant as compared to the weather we have in our metropolitan cities.

While traveling in a hilly area, as far as we have straight roads, we can easily have a car follow a steady-state uniform motion along a path. But, when the roads start to elevate, you (driver) have to increase the speed of the car.

On the other hand, when there is a sharp bend, to avoid an unwanted accident, the driver has to decrease the speed of the car.

Walking in a crowded place

Ever walked in a crowded place. If yes, then you already know what I am about to say. Last but not least in my list of top 6 non-uniform motion examples in daily life is walking in a crowded place.

When you walk in a crowded place, sometimes when the street is totally free, you try to cover a large distance. On the other hand, as soon as there is a lot of crowds, you have to adjust your walking speed, hence you have to slow down.

I am a mechanical engineer by profession. Just because of my love for fundamental physics, I switched my career, and therefore I did my postgraduate degree in physics. Right now I am a loner (as ever) and a Physics blogger too. My sole future goal is to do a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, especially in the field of cosmology. Because in my view, every aspect of physics comes within the range of cosmology. And I love traveling, especially the Sole one.
